Rebeccas starfish report

Starfish
Asteroids are the the scientific name for starfish. Starfish come from the echinderm class.

Habitat
Starfish are found in shallow water and rock pools. Asteroids move to and from there feeding ground. Starfish live face down.

Diet
Starfish feed on sea creatures called mollusces. The mollusces they feed on are mussels, sea snails, sea urchins and plankton. To get the creatures if its inside a shell, it will wrap the arms around it an pry it open.

Appearance
Starfish can have between 3 and 11 arms. If they lose an arm it will grow back, this is called regeneration. Asteroids are invertebrates, that means the bones are on the out side of its body. Spread across their arms are 15,000 suckers/feet. Asteroids have no brain and can live for 35 years.

Facts
Asteroids split themselves in half and both pieces will grow new arms. A starfish can lay up to 1’000 eggs at a time.

Overall starfish are strange sea creatures because they can regenerate themselves.
